And Joses, who by the apostles was
surnamed Barnabas, (which is, being
interpreted, The son of consolation,) a
Levite, and of the country of Cyprus,
Having land, sold it, and brought the
money, and laid it at the apostles' feet.

                                       Acts 4:36-37
What a person values most is what
drives them to be who they are.  Many times
when you see a change in someone’s life it
is because they have changed there basic
core values.  Before I was saved and God
got a hold on my heart, the most important
thing to me was enjoyment.  Sure I had
limits based upon my own conscience, but
even then some times I would violate my
own conscience just in order to have a good
time.  What happened to me was an old
fashioned conversion where God got a hold
of me, showed me that my sin is what was
going to cast me into Hell, and that
everything that I did that was contrary to the
his Holy law would in the end kill me.
Praise God that salvation is by grace
through faith, because that led me to repent
of my sin, trust him and ask him to be my
savior, my salvation.

That was the beginning of the change in
my life, because I now had knowledge of
sin, and the penalty of it.  That is after all
why Christ died the most horrific death
known to man.  What changed for me was
that now doing what was right had to come
before any thing else.  In obeying the LORD
I have found that the greatest pleasure
often comes from a willing sacrifice rather
than the pursuit of my own pleasure.

I don’t find the gift that Barnabas gave
all that amazing when I look at all that the
man did.  The giving of all that he owned
paled in comparison to the willful giving of
his life for the Gospel to be spread.  What I
have a hard time with is the unwillingness to
give by most Christians in America, when
God has given so much to us.
